About a week age, my old Mac laptop died on me (it was an iBook G4
[link] ... it may have been 4-5 years old and clunky, but I loved my little baby and I'm convinced it loved me back!). It had been complaining a week prior to that, but I didn't pay it as much as heed as I should have... When I turn it on, the apple appears but after approximately 30 seconds the wheel stops spinning and my only option is to restart it, only to have the same thing happen again. Starting it up in verbose/single-user mode, clearing the RAM or trying to start Disk Utility (repair tool) is no help either. It still freezes up after 30 seconds. I've concluded it's a hardware issue with the power supply. I am no IT expert, but I managed to get it to load the HD once by using the installation disc and nothing was wrong with the HD or my files or anything. I could click around and use the computer like always. The second I left it alone and the screen went black... it stayed that way. So yeah, power supply failure or something. At least I appreciate my old Mac for coughing up one last startup just so I could (frantically) backup the last chapter of my story (10 pages of a very difficult chapter) and the last 5 drawings (some of my latest uploaded to DA). God, I was SO close to crying when I thought I might have lost those files! So kudos to my Mac. May its plasticy shell rest in peace... Its heart I am not done with yet!
- For I am waiting for my Firewire cable to arrive. Apparently you can load a Mac's HD using another Mac's hardware. So I'll try using my new Mac for that. I still have 2 years' worth of accumulated music stuck in that white plastic corpse. Oh yeah, did I say
new Mac? I did!
MacBook Pro "13
2.53 GHz
250GB HD
4GB DDR3 RAM
[link]Theres other stuff as well, but these are the ones I care about. It's fast, it's plasticy and it purrs like a soft kitten. <3
I haven't drawn anything yet, but I am hoping for less lag in Photoshop now! Oh oh, and apparently you can get Corel Painter for Mac these days, which I'll have to check out. Yay for not having operating system restrictions anymore! (For now... but shh.)
So yeah, I guess I have an excuse for neglecting DA. Last Friday I graduated as a multimedia designer... so I guess that's what I am now! The final project was too long, exam was interesting... including, among other things, a fight with the external examiner and a teacher who hates my guts now, but it was good ending it! With a good grade average, even if I won't use it for anything. I applied to the University of Copenhagen (Communication & IT) but with the financial crisis and everything, I'm not at all sure of getting in. Cross your fingers for me! If I don't get in, I'll have to work... or find a bench somewhere where I can spend my pastime.
Today I passed the theory test (for my driver's license), which I am very happy about!
Next Wednesday I leave for Budapest with my boyfriend for a week. Can't wait!
My vacation plans are as follows: slack, play games, slack, eat some food, slack some more, go to the beach, go to Budapest, eat cakes, slack more, take pictures, draw, write on my story, slack even more, eat more food. Somewhat in that order.
I'll get around to fiddling with DA (and the critiques etc, and especially checking out my new watchers. HELLO THERE! *wave*) at some point. But yeah, enjoy the weather!
Hope you are well,
/Sara
"First 16 to comment on this journal requesting a slot will get 3 pieces from their gallery featured by me. I will choose the pieces I like best and post a little something about why I picked them.
In return, those Deviants featured will have to create their own 'Feature Journal' placing me in the first slot. Leading to a total of 17 Featured Deviants." I'm keeping this up for one more round. Again, you don't have to do it in return if you don't want to.
